The Nutrition Coaches of 424HrFitness Francois & Linda Swanepoel was absolutely privileged and proud to have been part of this very successful event. We were given the opportunity to sponsor the Sports Foundation Team with a set of main match jerseys which displayed the Herbalife24 logo. Each player also experienced the advanced nutrition in the icy refreshing Hydrate Isotonic drink we gave them at half time. We invite everybody close enough to join us again in 2013 at the next Charity Cup. | The Rematch Sport Charity Cup where Rugby was the winner! On 10th March 2012 The Rematch CHARITY CUP took place at Charles Morkel Stadium, Strand, South Africa. Here Helderberg RFC and The Sports Foundation - Helderberg "locked horns" in a commemorative friendly match. This whole day was all about giving and everybody agreed at the debriefing that the success of this first event will ensure everybody's commitment to annually revisit this event for year to come. The Helderberg RFC is reckoned as the largest and strongest Rugby Club in the Heldarberg and also is committed to use sport to get the community together and uplift or give support where the need is. The Sports Foundation - Helderberg squad was made up of players from clubs like Sir Lowrians, Strand United, Strand, Strand Pioneers and St Georges. VIP guests include Kalielie Arnold (Strand United), Reuben Riffel (St Georges), Neville Swartland (Macassar), John Brits(Sir Lowrians), Martin Delport (Raithby Universals), Warren Wilters and Hennie Shields. Guest from the WPRFU has also been invited. Thanks to sponsors 4245HrFitness (Herbalife Independent Distributors), WestVaal Somerset West, Rematch Sport, Radio Helderberg 93.6FM and Leading edge 64 to mention just a few. This was a glorious sunny Saturday with the traditional South Easter wind pushing the "White Giant" wave of cloud over the Hottentots Holland mountains challenging both teams in turn to contend with an extra "player" on the field. This day started early morning with people from the whole community flocking to the stadium grounds. Some came to first support their sons and brothers in the "Boys 7-a-side" Championship Finals that started on Thursday already. Others came to put up their stands, light the fires and "dive" into what was the BIG Cook-off "Potjiekos" Competition. This was truly a great affair that involved young and old alike. There was food, music, laughter, challenges . . . a Whole Lot of Great FUN! The "Big Guns" came out and the main match kicked off after 4PM. The stadium was packed, the field surrounded by shouting, singing and cheering supporters. The half time score (10 vs 3 for Helderberg RFC) said it all at first. In the first half of the match Helderberg RFC team showed why they are the best and strongest team in the valley. They dominated in the front with strong and controlled scrums delivering clean balls and lots of space for the back line to really take the game to the Sports Foundation team. Half time was a very brief break for both teams not leaving the field for the locker rooms as usual. Everybody just wanted to get on with this epic dual of brute force, strategy, agility and skill. The second half belonged to Sports Foundation team. They re-focused and started playing together just like a team that was playing together for many years despite they only had two practices together in preparation for this match. Their defensive play was as tight as the mountains in the backdrop. Their back line broke through the ranks of Helderberg and was rewarded with 9 extra points while only giving 3 points in this final part of the match. The outcome was uncertain till the very last second when the referee blew that filan whistle and it was over. The day ended with a celebration of friends and family together, all sharing one experience that resulted in generating a nice strong fund which are going to make a big difference in athletes and clubs in need of even the very basic equipment. Everybody rightfulle agreed that "Rugby was the winner!" of this day. |
